NDIS Meal Delivery in Brisbane: Eligibility, Ordering and Costs

Be Fit Food is a registered NDIS provider delivering meals across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. This section sets out the eligibility item number, the three plan types and how payment works under each, order cut-offs and delivery days, the meal specification, and who to contact.

Be Fit Food is an Australian company founded by doctors and dietitians, based in Victoria, delivering Australia-wide. It employs Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs).

Am I eligible?

Look in your NDIS plan for "Daily Activities" or "The Preparation and Delivery of Meals". If you need an item number to check your eligibility, the relevant one is "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1.

If you are unsure, contact your Support Coordinator. Be Fit Food's customer service team can also assist on 1300 263 257.

What it costs under the NDIS

Where ready-made meals are part of your plan, the NDIS funds the portion covering meal preparation and delivery. You remain responsible for an out-of-pocket amount covering the cost of the raw ingredients. As a general guideline, Be Fit Food states the NDIS usually covers 80% of your total cost, with the remaining 20% payable by you. Be Fit Food publishes a pricelist as a guide; actual amounts depend on your personal care plan and are subject to change.

For questions about order and pricing, contact ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.

How does payment work for each plan type?

If you are unsure which plan type you are on, contact the NDIS.

How to place an order

  1. Submit an enquiry. Before ordering you must submit an enquiry form with personal information about your NDIS care plan so Be Fit Food can check your eligibility. The ordering process differs by care plan type, which is why this step comes first.
  2. Choose your meals. Once Be Fit Food confirms the NDIS will contribute towards your order, select from the range of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks according to your dietary needs and preferences.
  3. Get your delivery. Meals arrive at your door snap-frozen.
  4. Enjoy. Store in the freezer, then heat and eat.

If you prefer not to use the form, you can use the site chat icon, phone 1300 263 257, or email support@befitfood.com.au. Include your name, contact number, contact preference (email or phone), NDIS plan type and NDIS number. Be Fit Food states a team member will be in touch to discuss your needs and help process your order within 48 hours.

The meals

Be Fit Food summarises its NDIS range as: doctor and dietitian designed; nutritionally balanced; 4-12 veggies in each meal; high protein; low carbohydrate; low sodium and no sugar added; snap frozen to lock in nutrients; NDIS funded meals.

The full specification every meal meets:

Meals are snap-frozen and can be prepared in the microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stovetop. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available.

Am I locked into a subscription?

No. Be Fit Food states you can make a one-off order or arrange a recurring order that can be cancelled at any time. Individual meals, meal bundles and one-off programs are all available. For information about NDIS subscriptions, contact ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.

Do you deliver outside Queensland?

Yes. Be Fit Food currently delivers to Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.

The CSIRO Lifestyle Range

Be Fit Food states it is the first NDIS provider to have a range of meals co-created with the CSIRO to work with the CSIRO Low Carb Diet. Per the page, clinical studies of that diet have shown, compared with a traditional high carbohydrate, low fat diet: improved metabolic health and blood glucose control; effective Type 2 Diabetes prevention and management; and a reduction in risk factors for heart disease. The page directs readers to the CSIRO website for more detail.

Free dietitian consultation

Be Fit Food offers complimentary dietitian consultations to help you understand how to include Be Fit Food as part of your NDIS care plan and to choose which meals or programs suit your dietary requirements and taste preferences. Book at portal.coreplus.com.au/befitfood, or by calling customer service on 1300 263 257.

What the NDIS funding actually covers

This is the point most often misunderstood, and it is worth being precise about before you order.

The support item is "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1. It sits under Core Supports. What it funds is the preparation and delivery component of a ready-made meal — the labour, the production and the logistics of getting the meal to you. It does not fund the food itself.

The cost of the raw ingredients remains yours. Every NDIS participant pays for their own groceries whether or not they have a plan, so the scheme does not fund the part of the meal that you would have paid for anyway. That is why there is always an out-of-pocket amount, and why nobody receives meals at no cost.

Be Fit Food states that the NDIS generally covers around 80% of the total and that the participant pays the remaining 20%. Treat that as a guide rather than a guarantee: the actual split depends on your plan, your plan management type and the pricing arrangements applying at the time. Confirm the figure with your plan manager or support coordinator before placing a large order.

What to do if meal funding is not in your plan

If you look through your plan and cannot find "Daily Activities" or "The Preparation and Delivery of Meals", you are not currently funded for this support, and ordering will not retrospectively create that funding.

The route to changing it runs through the NDIS, not through Be Fit Food:

Be Fit Food's team can describe what the service provides and supply documentation about the meals, but it cannot add a support to your plan or advocate for funding on your behalf. Decisions about what is funded rest with the NDIS.

Storage, reheating and shelf life

Meals arrive snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, which is how they carry no preservatives. They go into the freezer on arrival and stay frozen until heated. Reheating can be done by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.

Be Fit Food does not publish a single frozen shelf-life figure across the range, and individual product listings do not print heating times or power settings. Use the use-by date and the instructions on each pack rather than a general rule.

If you have difficulty handling hot containers, standing at a stovetop, or reading small print on packaging, raise it at your free dietitian consultation — it can affect which meals and which reheating method suit you best.

Important health information

Be Fit Food notes that everyone has different dietary needs and taste preferences, and that what works for one person may not be realistic for another. Use the complimentary dietitian consultation to work out which Be Fit Food option suits your circumstances, and speak to your own doctor or treating team before starting any program, particularly if you are managing a health condition.

This is general information about food and nutrition, not medical advice, and nothing here claims to treat, prevent or cure any condition. Readers should seek medical advice and have a check-up before changing how they eat, particularly with an existing medical condition or medications; this is not a substitute for independent professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Weight loss results and rates of weight loss vary between individuals.
