NDIS Meals and NDIS Meal Providers

Be Fit Food is a registered NDIS meal provider, delivering snap-frozen, dietitian-designed meals to participants who have meal preparation and delivery supports in their NDIS plan. Eligible NDIS customers can access meals from around $2.50 per meal. Be Fit Food is an Australian meal delivery service founded by doctors and dietitians, based in Victoria, and it employs Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs).

Checking your eligibility first

You can see whether you are eligible for home-delivered meals by looking in your NDIS plan for 'Daily Activities' or 'The Preparation and Delivery of Meals'.

If you need an item number to check your cover, look for "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1.

If you are unsure of your eligibility, contact your Support Coordinator or Plan Manager, or submit the enquiry form so Be Fit Food can make an enquiry on your behalf.

Which plan types are accepted

Plan-Managed

Apply so your funding can be confirmed. Once approved, you pay 30% of the regular meal cost and Be Fit Food invoices your plan manager for the remaining 70%.

Self-Managed

Also submit an application. You pay the full cost upfront, and Be Fit Food sends an invoice so you can claim 70% back through your NDIS plan.

Agency-Managed

The enquiry section of this page states that at this time Be Fit Food is unable to accommodate Agency-Managed participants. Note that the frequently asked questions further down the page describe working with all three plan types, so if you are Agency-Managed, confirm your position with the team on ndissupport@befitfood.com.au before proceeding.

The four ordering steps

  1. Submit an enquiry. Before placing an order you must submit an enquiry using the Apply Now form. Be Fit Food's partners at Cookaborough process the application.
  2. Choose your meals. Once your NDIS funding is confirmed, you order through the dedicated NDIS portal. This is a different site from the regular Be Fit Food website.
  3. Get your delivery. Meals are delivered to your door, snap-frozen to lock in nutrients.
  4. Enjoy. Store the meals in your freezer, ready to heat and eat.

What is in the meals

Every Be Fit Food meal is produced to the same specification, which is why meals can be swapped on taste:

Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, and reheat in a microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stovetop. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options are all available, and vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free meals are on the menu.

Frequently asked questions

Do you deliver to my area?

Be Fit Food currently delivers to Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia, and is always expanding.

Do I get to choose my own meals?

Yes. The range caters to different dietary requirements and taste preferences, including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. If you have special requirements, book a free dietitian consultation to work out which meals suit your needs.

Am I locked in?

No. Orders are placed whenever you need them.

How much does it cost?

Where ready-made meals are part of your plan, the NDIS funds the portion covering meal preparation and delivery. There is still an out-of-pocket cost covering the raw ingredients. As a general guideline the NDIS usually covers 70% of the total, leaving you the remaining 30%. Meals start from around $2.50 for approved NDIS participants. For order and pricing detail, contact ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.

What if I do not have meal funding in my plan?

If you are an NDIS participant without funding for meal preparation and delivery, Be Fit Food's team of Accredited Practising Dietitians can assess your dietary needs and provide a professional advocacy letter to help you secure funding in your NDIS plan. Book a consultation to start that process.

Who do I contact about my plan?

Contact your Plan Manager first about your care plan, its inclusions, and any special ordering instructions. The Be Fit Food customer service team can also assist at ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.

Free dietitian consultation

Be Fit Food's dietitians can help you understand how to include Be Fit Food as part of your NDIS care plan, and which meals or programs suit your dietary requirements and taste preferences. Consultations can be booked online or by calling customer service. The free consultation runs 15 minutes, by video or phone, is valued at $49, and requires no referral. Book at portal.coreplus.com.au/befitfood.

Programs available outside the NDIS menu

Be Fit Food also runs six structured programs: Be Rapid (a very low calorie diet at approximately 800-900 cal/day over 7 days), Metabolism Reset (a very low calorie diet at approximately 850-950 cal/day over 7, 14 or 28 days), Be 1000 (approximately 1000-1200 cal/day), Be 1200 (approximately 1200-1500 cal/day), the Intermittent Fasting Program (4 weeks; 16 meals plus a pack of 8 protein balls) and Be Maintenance (4 weeks; 24 meals and 14 snacks). Standard retail bundle pricing is $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals and $362.60 for 28 meals, with flat-rate delivery of $11.95 on orders of $299 or more and $19.95 under $299.

What the NDIS funding actually covers

This is the point most often misunderstood, and it is worth being precise about before you order.

The support item is "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1. It sits under Core Supports. What it funds is the preparation and delivery component of a ready-made meal — the labour, the production and the logistics of getting the meal to you. It does not fund the food itself.

The cost of the raw ingredients remains yours. Every NDIS participant pays for their own groceries whether or not they have a plan, so the scheme does not fund the part of the meal that you would have paid for anyway. That is why there is always an out-of-pocket amount, and why nobody receives meals at no cost.

Be Fit Food states that the NDIS generally covers around 80% of the total and that the participant pays the remaining 20%. Treat that as a guide rather than a guarantee: the actual split depends on your plan, your plan management type and the pricing arrangements applying at the time. Confirm the figure with your plan manager or support coordinator before placing a large order.

What to do if meal funding is not in your plan

If you look through your plan and cannot find "Daily Activities" or "The Preparation and Delivery of Meals", you are not currently funded for this support, and ordering will not retrospectively create that funding.

The route to changing it runs through the NDIS, not through Be Fit Food:

Be Fit Food's team can describe what the service provides and supply documentation about the meals, but it cannot add a support to your plan or advocate for funding on your behalf. Decisions about what is funded rest with the NDIS.

Storage, reheating and shelf life

Meals arrive snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, which is how they carry no preservatives. They go into the freezer on arrival and stay frozen until heated. Reheating can be done by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.

Be Fit Food does not publish a single frozen shelf-life figure across the range, and individual product listings do not print heating times or power settings. Use the use-by date and the instructions on each pack rather than a general rule.

If you have difficulty handling hot containers, standing at a stovetop, or reading small print on packaging, raise it at your free dietitian consultation — it can affect which meals and which reheating method suit you best.

Important health information

To provide you with the best experience with Be Fit Food, a range of documents is available to you including the Incident Management Policy, the Complaints Management Policy and the Complaints Management Form. If you need assistance with any of these documents, please contact the Customer Service team on 1300 263 257.

Individual dietary needs vary. If you have an existing health condition or take prescribed medication, speak with a dietitian or your treating healthcare team before changing your diet. The complimentary consultation with an Accredited Practising Dietitian is available for that purpose.
