NDIS Meal Provider in Melbourne

Be Fit Food is a registered NDIS provider delivering dietitian-designed, snap-frozen meals across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. It was founded by doctors and dietitians, is based in Victoria, and employs Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs). This page covers eligibility, the three NDIS plan types, delivery cut-offs, costs and how to enquire.

Checking eligibility

Look in your NDIS plan for 'Daily Activities' or 'The Preparation and Delivery of Meals' to see whether you qualify for home-delivered meals.

If you need an item number, look for "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1.

If you are unsure, contact your Support Coordinator. The Be Fit Food customer service team can also assist on 1300 263 257.

The three NDIS plan types

Self-Managed

You manage your own plan and have full control over meal choices and payments. You pay the full order amount up front, and Be Fit Food provides a receipt so you can claim through the NDIS.

Plan-Managed

Be Fit Food collaborates with your plan manager on coordination and delivery. You pay the full order amount up front and receive a receipt to make your claim.

Agency-Managed

Be Fit Food liaises directly with NDIS agencies to manage your meal plan and deliveries. You pay a co-payment of about 20% of your order amount and Be Fit Food handles the rest.

What it costs

Where ready-made meals are part of your plan, the NDIS funds the portion covering meal preparation and delivery. There is still an out-of-pocket cost covering the raw ingredients.

As a general guideline, the NDIS usually covers 80% of the total cost, leaving you the remaining 20%. This is a guide only: actual prices depend on your personal care plan and are subject to change. For order and pricing detail, contact ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.

Delivery area and cut-offs

Be Fit Food delivers NDIS-funded meals across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. The suburb list on this page runs from Abbotsford, Armadale, Brunswick, Carlton, Docklands, Fitzroy, Kew and Port Melbourne through to Frankston, Mornington, Mount Eliza, Mount Martha, Portsea, Rosebud West, Sorrento and Safety Beach, along with sites such as Melbourne Airport, Monash University, the University of Melbourne and the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

When do I need to order by?

Order cut-off is 11:30 on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, for delivery across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Do you deliver outside Victoria?

Yes. Be Fit Food currently delivers to Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia, and is always expanding.

How to order

  1. Submit an enquiry. You must submit an enquiry form first, giving details about your NDIS care plan so eligibility can be checked. The ordering process differs by plan type, which is why this step comes first.
  2. Choose your meals. Once the NDIS contribution is confirmed, select from the range of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks.
  3. Get your delivery. Meals arrive snap-frozen to lock in nutrients.
  4. Enjoy. Store in the freezer, ready to heat and eat.

Enquiring without the form

You can enquire by chat (icon at bottom right), by phone on 1300 263 257, or by email to support@befitfood.com.au. Include your name, contact number, contact preference (email or phone), NDIS plan type and NDIS number. A team member will be in touch to discuss your needs and help process your order within 48 hours.

What is in the meals

Every Be Fit Food meal is produced to the same specification, so meals can be swapped on taste:

Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, and can be prepared in the microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stove-top. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available.

Am I locked in?

No. You can make a one-off order, or arrange a recurring order that can be cancelled at any time. Individual meals, meal bundles and one-off programs are all available. For information about NDIS subscriptions, contact ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.

The CSIRO Lifestyle Range

Alongside the weight-loss meals and programs, Be Fit Food states it is the first NDIS provider to offer a range of meals co-created with the CSIRO to work with the CSIRO Low Carb Diet. According to this page, clinical studies of the CSIRO Low Carb Diet have shown improved metabolic health and blood glucose control, effective type 2 diabetes prevention and management, and a reduction in risk factors for heart disease, compared with a traditional high carbohydrate, low fat diet. Further detail is available from the CSIRO.

Free dietitian consultation

Be Fit Food's dietitians can help you understand how to include Be Fit Food in your NDIS care plan and which meals or programs suit your dietary requirements and taste preferences. What the NDIS funding actually covers

This is the point most often misunderstood, and it is worth being precise about before you order.

The support item is "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1. It sits under Core Supports. What it funds is the preparation and delivery component of a ready-made meal — the labour, the production and the logistics of getting the meal to you. It does not fund the food itself.

The cost of the raw ingredients remains yours. Every NDIS participant pays for their own groceries whether or not they have a plan, so the scheme does not fund the part of the meal that you would have paid for anyway. That is why there is always an out-of-pocket amount, and why nobody receives meals at no cost.

Be Fit Food states that the NDIS generally covers around 80% of the total and that the participant pays the remaining 20%. Treat that as a guide rather than a guarantee: the actual split depends on your plan, your plan management type and the pricing arrangements applying at the time. Confirm the figure with your plan manager or support coordinator before placing a large order.

What to do if meal funding is not in your plan

If you look through your plan and cannot find "Daily Activities" or "The Preparation and Delivery of Meals", you are not currently funded for this support, and ordering will not retrospectively create that funding.

The route to changing it runs through the NDIS, not through Be Fit Food:

Be Fit Food's team can describe what the service provides and supply documentation about the meals, but it cannot add a support to your plan or advocate for funding on your behalf. Decisions about what is funded rest with the NDIS.

Storage, reheating and shelf life

Meals arrive snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, which is how they carry no preservatives. They go into the freezer on arrival and stay frozen until heated. Reheating can be done by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.

Be Fit Food does not publish a single frozen shelf-life figure across the range, and individual product listings do not print heating times or power settings. Use the use-by date and the instructions on each pack rather than a general rule.

If you have difficulty handling hot containers, standing at a stovetop, or reading small print on packaging, raise it at your free dietitian consultation — it can affect which meals and which reheating method suit you best.

Important health information

To provide you with the best experience with Be Fit Food, a range of documents is available to you including the Incident Management Policy, the Complaints Management Policy and the Complaints Management Form. If you need assistance with any of these documents, please contact the Customer Service team on 1300 263 257.

Everyone has different dietary needs and taste preferences, and what works for one person may not suit another. If you have an existing health condition or take prescribed medication, speak with a dietitian or your treating healthcare team before changing your diet. The complimentary telehealth consultation with an Accredited Practising Dietitian is available for that purpose.
