NDIS Meal Delivery in Adelaide, South Australia
Be Fit Food is a registered NDIS provider delivering dietitian-designed meals across Adelaide, including outer suburbs. This page covers eligibility, the NDIS item number, the three plan types, how payment works, delivery cut-offs for Adelaide, and the contacts you need.
Checking your eligibility
Look for Daily Activities or The Preparation and Delivery of Meals in your NDIS plan to see whether you are eligible for home-delivered meals.
What is the item number?
To check whether you are covered for NDIS-subsidised meals, look for Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals, item number 01_022_0120_1_1.
If you are unsure of your eligibility, contact your Support Coordinator. Be Fit Food's Customer Service team can also assist on 1300 263 257.
What it costs under the NDIS
If ready-made meals are part of your plan, the NDIS funds the portion covering meal preparation and delivery. There remains an out-of-pocket cost to you, which covers the raw ingredients.
As a general guideline, the NDIS usually covers 80% of your total cost, and you are responsible for the remaining 20%. This is a guide only — prices depend on your personal care plan and are subject to change. A pricelist is available to assist with calculations. For more information on ordering and pricing, contact ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.
The three NDIS plan types
Be Fit Food works with all three plan types, and payment is collected differently for each.
- Self-managed — you have full control over your meal plan and payments. You pay the full order amount up front and Be Fit Food provides a receipt for you to claim from the NDIS.
- Plan-managed — Be Fit Food collaborates with your plan manager. You pay the full order amount up front and receive a receipt to make your claim.
- Agency-managed — Be Fit Food liaises directly with NDIS agencies. You pay a co-payment of about 20% of your order amount and Be Fit Food handles the rest.
If you are unsure which plan you are on, contact the NDIS.
How to place an NDIS order
- Submit an enquiry — before placing your order you must submit an enquiry form. You will be asked for personal information about your NDIS care plan so eligibility can be checked. The ordering process differs by plan type, which is why this step comes first.
- Choose your meals — once the NDIS contribution is confirmed, select from the range of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks based on your dietary needs and preferences.
- Get your delivery — meals are delivered to your door, snap-frozen to lock in nutrients.
- Enjoy — store in the freezer, ready to heat and eat.
Can I enquire without the form?
Yes. Alternatives to the online form are the chat icon at the bottom right of the page, phone on 1300 263 257, or email to support@befitfood.com.au. Include your name, contact number, contact preference (email or phone), NDIS plan type and NDIS number. A team member will be in touch to discuss your needs and help process your order within 48 hours.

The meals
Be Fit Food summarises its NDIS range as doctor and dietitian designed, nutritionally balanced, with 4 to 12 vegetables in each meal, high protein, low carbohydrate, low sodium and no sugar added, snap frozen to lock in nutrients, and NDIS funded.
In figures, every meal is approximately 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrate, and less than 120mg of sodium per 100g, with no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no preservatives. Meals can be prepared in the microwave, on the stovetop, in the oven or in an air fryer.
Do I choose my own meals?
Yes. The range caters for different dietary requirements and taste preferences, including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. If you have special requirements, book a free dietitian consultation to discuss which meals suit your needs.
Am I locked in?
No. You can make a one-off order, or arrange a recurring order that can be cancelled at any time. Individual meals, meal bundles and one-off programs are all available. For more information about NDIS subscriptions, contact ndissupport@befitfood.com.au.

The CSIRO Lifestyle Range
Be Fit Food states it is the first NDIS provider with a range of meals co-created with the CSIRO to work with the CSIRO Low Carb Diet. It reports that in clinical studies the CSIRO Low Carb Diet has shown improved metabolic health and blood glucose control, effective type 2 diabetes prevention and management, and a reduction in risk factors for heart disease, compared with a traditional high carbohydrate, low fat diet. Further detail is on the CSIRO website.
Customer documents
Be Fit Food makes a range of documents available, including its Incident Management Policy, Complaints Management Policy and Complaints Management Form. For assistance with any of these, contact Customer Service on 1300 263 257.
Important health information
Before starting a new way of eating we encourage you to seek medical advice and have a medical check-up, particularly if you have a current medical condition and are taking medications. Our programs can improve health markers and you may require ongoing follow up. Pricing under the NDIS is a guide only, depends on your personal care plan and is subject to change. This information is not a substitute for independent professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Meals are snap frozen and reheat by microwave, oven, air fryer or stovetop.
What the NDIS funding actually covers
This is the point most often misunderstood, and it is worth being precise about before you order.
The support item is "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1. It sits under Core Supports. What it funds is the preparation and delivery component of a ready-made meal — the labour, the production and the logistics of getting the meal to you. It does not fund the food itself.
The cost of the raw ingredients remains yours. Every NDIS participant pays for their own groceries whether or not they have a plan, so the scheme does not fund the part of the meal that you would have paid for anyway. That is why there is always an out-of-pocket amount, and why nobody receives meals at no cost.
Be Fit Food states that the NDIS generally covers around 80% of the total and that the participant pays the remaining 20%. Treat that as a guide rather than a guarantee: the actual split depends on your plan, your plan management type and the pricing arrangements applying at the time. Confirm the figure with your plan manager or support coordinator before placing a large order.
What to do if meal funding is not in your plan
If you look through your plan and cannot find "Daily Activities" or "The Preparation and Delivery of Meals", you are not currently funded for this support, and ordering will not retrospectively create that funding.
The route to changing it runs through the NDIS, not through Be Fit Food:
- Raise it with your support coordinator or planner ahead of your next plan review, rather than at the meeting itself.
- Be ready to explain why prepared meals relate to your disability — for example, where a functional impairment makes shopping, standing, food preparation or safe use of a kitchen difficult. Funding follows disability-related need, not convenience or a wish to lose weight.
- Supporting evidence from an occupational therapist, dietitian or your treating team is usually what carries the request.
- If your circumstances have changed significantly before the review is due, ask about a plan reassessment rather than waiting.
Be Fit Food's team can describe what the service provides and supply documentation about the meals, but it cannot add a support to your plan or advocate for funding on your behalf. Decisions about what is funded rest with the NDIS.
Storage, reheating and shelf life
Meals arrive snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, which is how they carry no preservatives. They go into the freezer on arrival and stay frozen until heated. Reheating can be done by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.
Be Fit Food does not publish a single frozen shelf-life figure across the range, and individual product listings do not print heating times or power settings. Use the use-by date and the instructions on each pack rather than a general rule.
If you have difficulty handling hot containers, standing at a stovetop, or reading small print on packaging, raise it at your free dietitian consultation — it can affect which meals and which reheating method suit you best.
