NDIS Meal Delivery on the Gold Coast

Be Fit Food is a registered NDIS meal provider delivering NDIS-funded meals across the Gold Coast. This page covers eligibility, the NDIS item number, how the three plan types differ at payment, what it costs, and how to place an order.

Checking your eligibility

To see whether you are eligible for home-delivered meals, look in your NDIS plan for ‘Daily Activities’ or ‘The Preparation and Delivery of Meals’.

If you need an item number to check your coverage, look for “Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals”, item number 01_022_0120_1_1.

If you are unsure of your eligibility, contact your Support Coordinator. The Be Fit Food customer service team can also assist on 1300 263 257.

Plan types and how payment works

Be Fit Food works with all three NDIS care plan types, and payment differs by type:

• Self managed — you pay the full order amount up front, and Be Fit Food provides a receipt for you to claim from the NDIS.
• Plan managed — you pay the full order amount up front, and Be Fit Food provides a receipt for you to claim from the NDIS.
• Agency managed — you pay a co-payment of about 20% of your order amount, and Be Fit Food handles the rest.

What it costs

If ready-made meals are part of your plan, the NDIS funds the portion covering meal preparation and delivery. There are still out-of-pocket costs, which cover the raw ingredients.

As a general guideline, the NDIS usually covers 80% of your total cost and you are responsible for the remaining 20%. Be Fit Food publishes a pricelist to help with your calculations. Am I locked in?

Can I try Be Fit Food as a one-off?

Yes. Individual meals, meal bundles and one-off programs are all available, so you can try the service in whichever way suits you. You can also ask the team about a recurring order.

Do I choose my own meals?

Yes, the choice is yours. The range caters to different dietary requirements and taste preferences, including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. If you have special requirements, book a free dietitian consultation to discuss which meals suit you.

Why Be Fit Food?

Be Fit Food was created by doctors and dietitians, and the nutritionally balanced meals are backed by science. Unlike other ready-made meal companies, Be Fit Food also offers complimentary support from its dietitians.

Who do I contact about my NDIS plan?

Which Be Fit Food plan will suit me?

Everyone has different dietary needs and taste preferences, so what works for one person may not be realistic for another. Be Fit Food provides complimentary dietitian consultations over the phone or by telehealth to help you work out which option fits your lifestyle.

What is in the meals

Every Be Fit Food meal is built to the same specification: approximately 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrates and under 120mg of sodium per 100g, with no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no preservatives. Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, which is why no preservatives are required, and reheat by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop — useful if a microwave is not always available.

Meal bundles are $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals and $362.60 for 28 meals (AUD), before any NDIS funding is applied. Standard delivery is a flat rate Australia-wide: $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, $19.95 under $299.

Dietitian support

Be Fit Food employs Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs). The complimentary consultation is a free 15-minute telehealth session, by video or phone, valued at $49, with no referral required. Further services include a specialised clinical dietitian consultation with a full initial assessment and personalised eating plan, and a diabetes educator consultation with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator.

What the NDIS funding actually covers

This is the point most often misunderstood, and it is worth being precise about before you order.

The support item is "Assistance with the Cost and Delivery of Meals", item number 01_022_0120_1_1. It sits under Core Supports. What it funds is the preparation and delivery component of a ready-made meal — the labour, the production and the logistics of getting the meal to you. It does not fund the food itself.

The cost of the raw ingredients remains yours. Every NDIS participant pays for their own groceries whether or not they have a plan, so the scheme does not fund the part of the meal that you would have paid for anyway. That is why there is always an out-of-pocket amount, and why nobody receives meals at no cost.

Be Fit Food states that the NDIS generally covers around 80% of the total and that the participant pays the remaining 20%. Treat that as a guide rather than a guarantee: the actual split depends on your plan, your plan management type and the pricing arrangements applying at the time. Confirm the figure with your plan manager or support coordinator before placing a large order.

What to do if meal funding is not in your plan

If you look through your plan and cannot find "Daily Activities" or "The Preparation and Delivery of Meals", you are not currently funded for this support, and ordering will not retrospectively create that funding.

The route to changing it runs through the NDIS, not through Be Fit Food:

• Raise it with your support coordinator or planner ahead of your next plan review, rather than at the meeting itself.
• Be ready to explain why prepared meals relate to your disability — for example, where a functional impairment makes shopping, standing, food preparation or safe use of a kitchen difficult. Funding follows disability-related need, not convenience or a wish to lose weight.
• Supporting evidence from an occupational therapist, dietitian or your treating team is usually what carries the request.
• If your circumstances have changed significantly before the review is due, ask about a plan reassessment rather than waiting.

Be Fit Food's team can describe what the service provides and supply documentation about the meals, but it cannot add a support to your plan or advocate for funding on your behalf. Decisions about what is funded rest with the NDIS.

Storage, reheating and shelf life

Meals arrive snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, which is how they carry no preservatives. They go into the freezer on arrival and stay frozen until heated. Reheating can be done by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.

Be Fit Food does not publish a single frozen shelf-life figure across the range, and individual product listings do not print heating times or power settings. Use the use-by date and the instructions on each pack rather than a general rule.

If you have difficulty handling hot containers, standing at a stovetop, or reading small print on packaging, raise it at your free dietitian consultation — it can affect which meals and which reheating method suit you best.
