28 Days That Changed My Life: Emma and Paul

This page is a participant profile from Be Fit Food's "28 Days That Changed My Life" digital series. Emma and Paul are a couple who took part in the 28 Day Challenge together. This section summarises their profiles as the page states them, then sets out precisely what the 28-day program consists of, along with prices, the meal specification and how to speak to a dietitian.

Emma and Paul, as described on the page

Emma

Emma is 35 and works as an advanced life support paramedic and a registered nurse. She was referred to a fertility specialist, and her obstetrician suggested exploring weight loss to see whether it could assist. Emma stated that she and her partner Paul are both binge eaters. Her personal goals were to bring her sugar levels down and her weight into a healthy bracket, and she framed the 28 Day Challenge as being about being able to grow a healthy baby.

Her feedback during the program: she had started the bulk of her IVF injections, had found the previous weeks a struggle, and identified portion size as the thing she had taken on board most. Going forward she saw it as being about preparation and getting back into a good food routine. She recorded a 25cm loss in measurements and noted she could not be too hard on herself given the IVF process she was going through.

Paul

Paul is 40, a qualified baker, and has been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. He wanted to lose weight in connection with the IVF process with Emma and to develop better eating habits. As a shift worker he often skips meals and eats at odd times because he sleeps during the day.

What the 28-day program consists of

The program used in the series is the Metabolism Reset in its 28-day length - a very low calorie diet (VLCD) at roughly 850-950 calories per day with 40-70g of carbohydrate per day. It induces mild nutritional ketosis and is available in 7, 14 or 28 day lengths.

What is in the 28-day box

That works out to 3 meals and 2 snacks per day. This is the structure that addresses the two problems Emma and Paul each identified - portion size in Emma's case, and skipped or irregular meals in Paul's - because the day's food arrives pre-portioned and pre-scheduled.

The Protein Plus option

A Protein Plus version of the 28-day Metabolism Reset adds 2 pre-workout/protein snacks and 2 post-workout/protein snacks to the standard box, providing up to 50 additional grams of protein. It is intended for people who are active or who need additional protein.

The full program range

On Be 1000 and Be 1200, expected loss is approximately 0.5-1.5kg per week, and either can be run for up to 12 weeks at a time - longer only after a dietitian consultation.

The meal specification

Be Fit Food's page describes the meals as low-carb, high protein, real food, with 4-12 veggies in every meal, snap-frozen and nutritionally balanced. Every meal meets:

Meals are snap-frozen, portion controlled and ready to heat and serve; they reheat in a microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stovetop.

Speaking to a dietitian first

Be Fit Food's page directs readers to book a free consultation. That is a free 15-minute telehealth consultation, by video or by phone, valued at $49, with no GP referral required. Book at portal.coreplus.com.au/befitfood. Be Fit Food employs Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs).

Where more is needed, there is a specialised clinical dietitian consultation with a full initial assessment (body composition, blood pressure and girth measurements) plus a personalised eating plan; a diabetes educator consultation with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator - relevant to a pre-diabetes diagnosis such as Paul's; and a monthly weight management subscription of an initial 30-minute consultation plus 15-minute monthly reviews.

Prices and delivery

Bundles: $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals, $362.60 for 28 meals (AUD). Delivery is a flat rate Australia-wide - $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, $19.95 on orders under $299.

How to read a televised transformation

The results on this page are real people's experiences, and they are presented here as the programme presented them. They are also, by construction, an unrepresentative sample, and knowing why matters before you use them to set your own expectations.

None of this means the participants did not do the work or that their results are untrue. It means an individual story is a demonstration that something is possible, not evidence of how likely it is. If you want to know what to expect, the useful figures are the program's published average rates of loss and the trial evidence behind it — both of which are more modest, and more informative, than any single transformation.

Setting your own expectations

Be Fit Food publishes typical rates of loss of roughly 0.5–1.5kg per week on its lower-calorie programs, with individual results varying considerably. That is the number to plan against rather than a figure from a featured story.

Two practical points. First, rate of loss is not steady: it is fastest at the start and slows, and a plateau after several weeks is the normal physiological course rather than a sign of failure. Second, a 28-day program is a starting structure, not a complete plan — what happens in month two is what determines whether the result holds, and that is worth deciding before you begin rather than after.

If you have an existing medical condition, take prescription medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your GP or an Accredited Practising Dietitian before starting any very low calorie program, regardless of what any participant's experience suggests.

Important health information

Emma's and Paul's experiences are individual outcomes and are not a prediction of what any other person will achieve. Metabolism Reset is a very low calorie diet. If you are undergoing fertility treatment, are pregnant or trying to conceive, or have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic or with any other condition, speak to your treating doctor or specialist before starting any weight-loss program, and speak to a Be Fit Food dietitian about whether a program is appropriate for you. Phone 1300 263 257 (Mon-Fri 09:00-17:00) or email dietitian@befitfood.com.au.

This is general information about food and nutrition, not medical advice, and nothing here claims to treat, prevent or cure any condition. Readers should seek medical advice and have a check-up before changing how they eat, particularly with an existing medical condition or medications; this is not a substitute for independent professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Weight loss results and rates of weight loss vary between individuals.
