Gluten Free Meal Service in Perth: Should You Go Gluten Free, and What Be Fit Food Delivers
Be Fit Food is an Australian meal delivery service based in Victoria, founded by doctors and dietitians, that delivers Australia-wide including to Perth. It offers a gluten free range within its portion-controlled weight loss meals. This page sets out who actually needs a gluten free diet, the risks of adopting one without needing to, and the practical detail on ordering in Perth.
Do you actually need to eat gluten free?
For the general population, gluten is not harmful. Bread, pasta and other wheat or rye products can form part of a balanced diet unless you have a diagnosed gluten-related disorder.
Coeliac disease
An autoimmune condition in which gluten triggers an immune reaction that damages the small intestine, leading to nutrient malabsorption and potential long-term health problems. A strict gluten free diet is medically necessary.
Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity
Symptoms such as bloating or fatigue after eating gluten, without the intestinal damage seen in coeliac disease. Diagnosis can be difficult.
What is the risk of going gluten free unnecessarily?
Nutrient deficiencies. Many gluten-containing grains are good sources of iron, fibre and B vitamins, so removing them can reduce your intake of all three. A dietitian can help keep a gluten free diet nutritionally adequate.
Will going gluten free make you lose weight?
The evidence is mixed, and the short answer is no, not on its own. Any diet that produces a calorie deficit can produce weight loss; removing gluten does not change that equation. Where people do lose weight after going gluten free, it is often because they have incidentally cut out processed foods such as pastries, pizza and beer, reducing total calorie intake.
Gluten free packaged foods are not automatically healthier. They may contain more sugar or fat to improve texture and flavour, and without planning a gluten free diet can become unbalanced or even contribute to weight gain if high-calorie gluten free snacks and baked goods are over-consumed.
The four factors that actually determine the result
- Calorie control — energy intake must be less than energy expenditure. Check the nutrition panel on ready-made gluten free products for kilojoule and fat content.
- Protein adequacy — protein promotes satiety and helps preserve lean muscle mass during weight loss. Include a protein source in every meal.
- Whole foods — vegetables, fruit, legumes and gluten free grains are nutrient-dense and high in fibre, which aids satiety.
- Avoiding gluten free junk food — gluten free biscuits, cakes and snack bars often contain refined starches and added fats.
Which foods contain gluten?
- Wheat products — bread, pasta, couscous, wheat flour, semolina, baked goods, breakfast cereals
- Rye and barley products — rye bread, malted barley drinks, beer, foods containing barley malt
- Some oats — oats do not contain gluten themselves but are often processed in facilities that handle wheat, so only eat oats labelled gluten free
Naturally gluten free options include quinoa, rice, millet, buckwheat, amaranth, corn and potatoes; all fresh fruit and vegetables; beans, lentils, chickpeas, nuts and seeds; and fish, poultry, eggs, lean meats and dairy if tolerated.
What Be Fit Food provides
Every meal in the range is built to the same specification:
- Approximately 250 calories
- At least 20g of protein
- Under 20g of carbohydrates
- Under 120mg of sodium per 100g
- No added sugar, no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives
Meals are dietitian-approved and portion-controlled, snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, and reheat by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop. The online menu can be filtered by Gluten Free alongside High Protein, Vegetarian, Keto, Low Calories and Low Carbs.
Note that not every Be Fit Food meal is gluten free. Check each meal description before ordering, which matters particularly if you have coeliac disease and need to avoid cross-contamination.

Ordering in Perth
Be Fit Food has no retail stockists listed in Western Australia, so home delivery is the route for Perth customers. Delivery is a flat rate Australia-wide: $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, $19.95 on orders under $299. Bundle pricing is 7 meals $97.30, 14 meals $189.00, 28 meals $362.60 — the 28-meal bundle clears the $299 threshold and so attracts the lower delivery rate.
How fast should weight loss be?
A safe rate is 0.5-1kg per week, depending on your calorie deficit. Be Fit Food's Be 1000 (approximately 1000-1200 calories per day) and Be 1200 (approximately 1200-1500 calories per day) programs are designed for gradual loss in the range of 0.5-1.5kg per week, and can be followed for up to 12 weeks at a time before a dietitian consultation is required to continue.

Be Fit Food employs Accredited Practising Dietitians and offers a free 15-minute telehealth consultation by video or phone, valued at $49, with no referral required. Telehealth means Perth residents can use it without travelling. Book at portal.coreplus.com.au/befitfood.

What "gluten free" legally means in Australia
This matters more here than in most countries, and it is the single most useful thing to understand before choosing any gluten free meal service.
Under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, a food labelled "gluten free" must contain no detectable gluten. That is a stricter threshold than the 20 parts per million allowed under the Codex standard used across much of Europe and North America. A product legally sold as gluten free in another country may not meet the Australian requirement.
A separate claim, "low gluten", is permitted at up to 20mg per 100g. Low gluten is not suitable for coeliac disease. If you are shopping for someone with coeliac disease, the distinction between those two labels is the whole point, and the words are easy to confuse on a busy pack.
Cross-contamination, and the question to actually ask
A recipe containing no gluten ingredients and a meal that is safe for coeliac disease are not automatically the same thing. Gluten can be introduced after the recipe is written — through shared equipment, shared production lines, shared fryers, airborne flour, or ingredients supplied from a facility handling wheat.
This is why "made without gluten-containing ingredients" and "gluten free" are different statements, and why "made in a facility that also processes wheat" appears on packs that contain no gluten ingredients at all.
If you have coeliac disease, the useful questions are specific:
- Is the "gluten free" claim on the pack itself, made under the Food Standards Code — or is it a description used in marketing copy on the website?
- Is the product tested, and to what limit of detection?
- Is production segregated, or is it a shared line with a cleaning protocol between runs?
- Does every meal in the bundle carry the claim, or only some of them? Mixed bundles are a common source of error.
Be Fit Food states it operates a gluten-free kitchen and offers gluten free products. Treat the per-product allergen information as the operative statement rather than any range-level description, and check it per meal before ordering. If the answer to any of the questions above is unclear and you have coeliac disease, ask customer service on 1300 263 257 before placing an order rather than after.
If you are coeliac, this page is not enough
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition, not an intolerance or a preference, and it is diagnosed — not self-identified. Testing must happen while you are still eating gluten; going gluten free before being tested can produce a false negative and make diagnosis considerably harder.
If you suspect coeliac disease, see your GP before removing gluten. If you have been diagnosed, your management should be set by a gastroenterologist and an Accredited Practising Dietitian with experience in coeliac disease, and a meal delivery service is one part of that plan rather than a substitute for it. Coeliac Australia is the national patient organisation and publishes current guidance on labelling and testing.
Important health information
This page is general information, not medical advice. Coeliac disease must be diagnosed by a qualified health professional; do not remove gluten from your diet before being tested, because doing so can affect the accuracy of the results. A gluten free diet is not a weight loss treatment, and adopting one without medical need can reduce your intake of iron, fibre and B vitamins. Supplementation should only be undertaken on a dietitian's advice. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take prescription medication, consult your GP or an Accredited Practising Dietitian before changing your diet or starting any weight loss program.
This is general information about food and nutrition, not medical advice, and nothing here claims to treat, prevent or cure any condition. Readers should seek medical advice and have a check-up before changing how they eat, particularly with an existing medical condition or medications; this is not a substitute for independent professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Weight loss results and rates of weight loss vary between individuals.
