Defeat Diabetes and Be Fit Food

The Defeat Diabetes Low Carb Program helps people with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes move to a low carb approach, in order to improve blood glucose management and work towards remission. It does this by helping members understand their condition, understand how carbohydrates such as oats, bread and starchy vegetables cause blood glucose spikes, and cook simple meals that improve blood glucose management.

The partnership with Be Fit Food covers the gap that program leaves: not everyone wants to cook, and even people who enjoy cooking need time off. A Defeat Diabetes-approved Be Fit Food meal is the fallback for days when time, energy or inclination are short.

The offer

This page states the discount two ways. The headline offer is $25 off your first order over $99 using the code DEFEATDIABETES at checkout. Elsewhere on the page the offer is stated as $35 off your first order when you spend $99 or more. Order value excludes postage, and the offer applies to first orders over $99. If the two figures differ at checkout, confirm the current amount with Be Fit Food before ordering.

Why Defeat Diabetes recommends Be Fit Food

Defeat Diabetes states it searched for a ready-made meal that was not full of seed oils, additives and other unwanted ingredients. Its reasons for selecting Be Fit Food:

A Defeat Diabetes dietitian (APD) is quoted comparing a range of home delivery meals and describing Be Fit Food as the only one without seed oils, using minimal whole ingredients where possible, and able to support a low-carb approach on days when cooking is not an option.

The CSIRO Lifestyle Range

Alongside its weight loss meals and programs, Be Fit Food states it is the first NDIS provider to offer a range of meals co-created with the CSIRO to work with the CSIRO Low Carb Diet.

In clinical studies, the CSIRO Low Carb Diet has shown the following benefits compared with a traditional high carbohydrate, low fat diet:

Getting the most from the meals

Defeat Diabetes' framing is abundance rather than restriction — low carb is not meant to be a frugal way of eating. Be Fit Food meals are portion-controlled, so they may look small at first; the intent is that you gradually recondition your sense of a correct portion, which makes weight easier to manage later. If you feel hungry, add low carb vegetables and salads. Suggested ways to stay full:

Important health information

Individual results vary. Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes are medical conditions requiring medical supervision. Changing your carbohydrate intake can affect blood glucose and may require adjustment of diabetes medication. Speak with your doctor, diabetes educator or an Accredited Practising Dietitian before changing your diet, and continue monitoring your blood glucose as they advise.

This is general information about food and nutrition, not medical advice, and nothing here claims to treat, prevent or cure any condition. Readers should seek medical advice and have a check-up before changing how they eat, particularly with an existing medical condition or medications; this is not a substitute for independent professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Weight loss results and rates of weight loss vary between individuals.
