Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) Results: What Be Fit Food's 800-900 Calorie Plans Deliver
A very low calorie diet is a low calorie, low carbohydrate, high protein diet used for weight loss or weight management. A traditional VLCD limits intake to 800 calories per day using nutritionally complete meal replacement products. Be Fit Food's version is a real food VLCD: approximately 800-900 calories per day and around 40-70g of carbohydrates, delivered as 3 meals and 2 snacks per day following a Mediterranean style approach.
The results figures on this page, stated plainly
- Average rate of loss: 1-1.5kg per week on a VLCD.
- Duration: suitable to follow for anywhere between 2 and 12 weeks, ideally under the guidance of a dietitian.
- Daily intake: approximately 800-900 calories, with around 40-70g of carbohydrates.
- Per meal: approximately 250 calories and around 20g of protein, which Be Fit Food links to appetite management and muscle mass maintenance.
Across the wider Be Fit Food range, every meal is built to the same specification: approximately 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrates and under 120mg of sodium per 100g, with no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no preservatives. Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised and reheat in a microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stovetop.
Real food VLCD versus meal replacement VLCD
The distinction this page draws is between the two ways of hitting the same calorie target. A traditional VLCD uses nutritionally complete meal replacement products. Be Fit Food's approach reaches the same 800-900 calorie band using prepared meals, so the calorie counting is done for you: because meals are calorie controlled at around 250 calories each, tracking the daily number is arithmetic rather than estimation. Calorie controlled meal preparation is described on this page as one of the biggest hurdles for people attempting a VLCD themselves.
Which VLCD product to start with
Be Rapid — 7 days
Be Rapid runs the VLCD at approximately 800-900 calories per day as a 7-day reset and induces mild nutritional ketosis. This page describes it as Be Fit Food's most popular program, designed for safe, rapid weight loss using an evidence-based nutritional approach, and used by both men and women.
Metabolism Reset — 7, 14 or 28 days
Metabolism Reset is the other VLCD program, at approximately 850-950 calories per day with 40-70g of carbohydrates, also inducing mild nutritional ketosis. It is the option to choose when you want longer than a single week at VLCD level, within the 2-12 week window described above.
7 Breakfasts bundle
A week's worth of breakfasts, each under 250 calories, suitable at any stage of the VLCD. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are catered for.
14 Meals bundle
Two weeks of prepared meals if you are replacing one meal a day with a low calorie, high protein meal, or seven days of full meal coverage if you are not.
What comes after the VLCD
The 2-12 week ceiling means a VLCD is a phase, not a permanent way of eating. Be Fit Food's step-down options are:
- Be 1000 — approximately 1000-1200 calories per day, for gradual weight loss or maintaining a loss. Unlikely to induce ketosis.
- Be 1200 — approximately 1200-1500 calories per day, for slower loss plus weight management alongside an active lifestyle or HIIT training. Unlikely to induce ketosis.
- Be Maintenance — a 4-week program of 24 meals and 14 snacks, with two low-calorie days per week at around 800 calories (60-70g protein, 50-70g carbohydrates), based on Dr Michael Mosley's “The Fast 800” and “The New 5:2 Diet”.
- Intermittent Fasting Program — 4 weeks of 5 days healthy eating and 2 fasting days at 500-600 calories, supplying 16 lunch and dinner meals plus a pack of 8 protein balls.
Be 1000 and Be 1200 produce approximately 0.5-1.5kg of loss per week and may be followed for up to 12 weeks at a time, with longer only after a dietitian consultation.
Support while you are on the program
Be Fit Food's accredited dietitians can advise on how to implement the VLCD program in a way that works for you. A free 15-minute telehealth consultation, by video or phone, is available at no cost, is valued at $49, and requires no referral. Bookings: portal.coreplus.com.au/befitfood. Be Fit Food also runs a Facebook group where customers share tips, ideas, stories and struggles and support each other.
Deeper options include a specialised clinical dietitian consultation with a full initial assessment (body composition, blood pressure and girths) and a personalised eating plan, a Credentialled Diabetes Educator consultation, and a monthly weight management subscription of an initial 30-minute consultation plus 15-minute monthly reviews.
Costs
Meal bundles: $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals, $362.60 for 28 meals (AUD). Delivery is a flat rate Australia-wide: $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, $19.95 under $299.
Important health information
VLCD results are individual and will be different for everyone. As this page states, like any weight loss plan a VLCD is not for everyone. A VLCD is suitable to follow for between 2 and 12 weeks and ideally under the guidance of a dietitian. To check whether the program is suitable for you, book a complimentary consultation with one of Be Fit Food's in-house dietitians before starting. Phone 1300 263 257 (+61 1300 263 257), Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00, or email dietitian@befitfood.com.au.
