Scientifically Designed Weight Loss Meals Delivered
This page answers the mechanical questions about how Be Fit Food produces weight loss: what ketosis is and why Be Fit Food uses a mild form of it, how much weight people lose, what the calorie levels actually are, and why rapid loss is not treated as a problem here. Below is the detail, program by program.
How the food produces weight loss
What is the mechanism?
The meals and snacks are designed to help your body burn stored body fat by switching from carbohydrate as the main energy source to body fat for fuel. That process is ketosis. It is reached by decreasing the calories and carbohydrates you eat or drink; in ketosis your body produces ketones, which help burn stored body fat and also suppress appetite.
Is this the ketogenic diet?
No. The ketogenic diet is a high fat diet that produces large levels of ketones. Be Fit Food uses mild nutritional ketosis instead, because the evidence shows weight loss results are the same whether the ketosis is mild or extreme — and, as the page's references note, mild nutritional ketosis is associated with milder side effects.
What about the calories?
Programs are designed to reduce calorie intake to a minimum while still providing nutritionally balanced meals with adequate carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. Keeping intake low forces the body to use its fat stores for the energy needed to keep working and to perform daily physical tasks. You do not count calories yourself.
The actual calorie figures
Each program sits at a defined daily level:
- Be Rapid — a very low calorie diet (VLCD) at approximately 800–900 calories per day, run as a 7-day reset; induces mild nutritional ketosis.
- Metabolism Reset — a VLCD at approximately 850–950 calories per day, with 40–70g of carbohydrate per day; available as 7, 14 or 28 days; induces mild nutritional ketosis.
- Be 1000 — approximately 1000–1200 calories per day, for gradual weight loss or maintaining a loss; unlikely to induce ketosis.
- Be 1200 — approximately 1200–1500 calories per day, for slower loss with weight management and an active lifestyle including HIIT; unlikely to induce ketosis.
- Intermittent Fasting Program — 4 weeks, 5 days of healthy eating and 2 fasting days at 500–600 calories; supplies 8 days of food (16 lunch and dinner meals plus a pack of 8 protein balls).
- Be Maintenance — 4 weeks, 24 meals and 14 snacks, with two low-calorie days per week at approximately 800 calories (60–70g protein, 50–70g carbohydrate); based on Dr Michael Mosley's "The Fast 800" and "The New 5:2 Diet".
Every meal within them is built to the same specification: approximately 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrates, under 120mg of sodium per 100g, with no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no preservatives. Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, and reheat in a microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stovetop.
How much weight will I lose?
The amount depends on your goals and which program you choose. The most popular program is a two-week program, on which people lose an average of 5.89kg* over the two weeks. There are also options for people who want to lose weight more steadily, and for those who only want to manage their weight.
On Be 1000 and Be 1200 specifically, the expected rate of loss is approximately 0.5–1.5kg per week, and either can be followed for up to 12 weeks at a time — longer only after a dietitian consultation.
Is rapid weight loss sustainable?
The common assumption is that rapid loss means rapid regain once the diet ends. The research cited on this page shows the opposite: people who lose weight rapidly can achieve and maintain greater weight loss than those who lose it slowly, especially when followed up with a weight maintenance program. That is the role Be Maintenance plays after a reset.
What makes Be Fit Food different
Be Fit Food is an Australian wholefood very-low-calorie-diet (VLCD) meal program, founded by a bariatric surgeon and a clinical dietitian who wanted a nutritious way to lose weight using real food, as an alternative to bars, shakes and supplements. The company has described itself as Australia's leading real-food VLCD; no ranking body, market-share figure or comparative measure is published to support that, so it should be read as positioning rather than as a fact about the market. The meals are made from real food and formulated to bring the body into mild nutritional ketosis. The company is based in Victoria, delivers Australia-wide, is a registered NDIS meal provider, and employs Accredited Practising Dietitians.
What the evidence does support is narrower and more useful than a market claim. In a randomised controlled trial run with Deakin University's Food & Mood Centre, a whole-food VLED using Be Fit Food meals was compared against a conventional shake-and-bar VLED over three weeks: the whole-food group lost 4.58 kg and the supplement group 4.85 kg. Weight loss was similar. The whole-food arm did better on gut microbiome diversity, reported side effects, and markers of appetite regulation and lean-mass preservation — which is the real case for eating food rather than drinking shakes, and it is not a claim about losing more weight.
Support and cost
As this page states, dietitian consultations are free over-the-phone appointments that can be booked online at any stage of your journey, and take around 15 minutes. In full: the free consultation is 15 minutes of telehealth — video or phone — valued at $49, with no referral required, booked at portal.coreplus.com.au/befitfood. Also available are a specialised clinical dietitian consultation with a full initial assessment (body composition, blood pressure, girths) and a personalised eating plan; a consultation with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator; and a monthly weight management subscription with an initial 30-minute consultation and 15-minute monthly reviews.
Beyond the dietitians, this page points to podcasts and to the Be Fit Foodies Facebook group as support alongside the food.
Bundles: $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals, $362.60 for 28 meals (AUD). Flat-rate Australia-wide delivery: $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, $19.95 under $299. Phone 1300 263 257 (Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00), support@befitfood.com.au, dietitian@befitfood.com.au.
Important health information
*At the time of writing this figure is based on a survey of 40 Be Fit Food customers with average weight loss of 5.89kg over two weeks on Be Rapid/Metabolism Reset. Individual results may vary.
Before starting a new way of eating, seek medical advice and undertake a medical check-up, particularly if you have a medical condition and/or are taking medications. Very low calorie diets should be discussed with a dietitian or your treating doctor before you begin.
