Be Fit Food Lifestyle Range

The Be Fit Food Lifestyle Range is a set of pre-made, snap-frozen meals developed using the science of the CSIRO Low Carb Diet. It sits alongside Be Fit Food's structured weight loss programs and is aimed at low carb living generally rather than at a fixed daily calorie target. Be Fit Food was founded by doctors and dietitians and is based in Victoria, delivering Australia-wide.

What defines the range

Science backed

The meals have been developed using the science of the CSIRO Low Carb Diet, so that they deliver evidence-backed results using a real whole food approach.

Nutritionally balanced

Created by Be Fit Food's team of dietitians, each meal provides a whole food solution balancing healthy fats, lean proteins and an abundance of low-carb vegetables. The meals contain no preservatives, no added sugar and no artificial sweeteners.

In numbers, every Be Fit Food meal contains approximately 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrate, and under 120mg of sodium per 100g.

Delivered to you

Meals are snap-frozen to lock in nutrients and delivered straight to your door for storage in your freezer. Reheating can be done by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop. Delivery is a flat rate Australia-wide: $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, and $19.95 on orders under $299.

What is the CSIRO Low-Carb Diet?

The CSIRO Low-Carb Diet is an energy controlled eating plan based on best practice principles of healthy eating. It promotes consuming low energy, nutrient dense, whole foods, and can be followed by and benefit a wide range of the population.

It is nutritionally complete and balances foods across all food groups to provide all essential nutrients including vitamins, minerals, trace elements and fibre, while remaining low in saturated (unhealthy) fat and carbohydrate.

What have clinical studies shown?

Rigorous clinical studies have shown that, compared with a traditional high carbohydrate, low fat diet, the CSIRO Low-Carb Diet effectively delivers:

Diabetes and Be Fit Food

Type 2 diabetes is a common but manageable condition, and lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise play a large role. Research shows low-carb or very low-calorie diets (VLCDs) can make a real difference in blood sugar control.

Be Fit Food states it is the only meal provider approved by both Diabetes Victoria and Diabetes Australia. Its stated points of difference for people with diabetes are that the meals are Diabetes Australia approved and expertly designed for people with diabetes; low-carb and supportive of stable blood sugar; available across a range of programs and bundles; and delivered to the door with no cooking required.

Be Fit Food's diabetes study

Be Fit Food conducted a study on the impact of one week of Be Fit Food on body composition and blood glucose management in people with Type 2 diabetes. Ten people with Type 2 diabetes consumed their usual self-selected diet for one week, then one week of a Be Fit Food delivered meal program. Body composition (percentages of fat, bone, water and muscle) was assessed, and blood glucose was monitored using a continuous glucose monitor.

Weight: one week on the Metabolism Reset program produced weight loss ranging from 0.1-6.2kg (average 3.3kg), compared with an average 0.8kg on the participants' self-selected diet. The page elsewhere describes this as 3.29kg on average versus 0.9kg on a standard diabetic diet over 7 days.

Blood glucose: on the Be Rapid program, readings were lower across four measures compared with the self-selected diet — daily average 6.1 ± 1.5 mmol/L vs 7.5 ± 1.9; daily peak 9.9 ± 2.4 vs 14.1 ± 6.3; post-prandial lunch 7.2 ± 1.9 vs 9.3 ± 2.3; and post-prandial dinner 7.0 ± 1.3 vs 9.6 ± 2.3.

These are preliminary data from a ten-person study.

How the Lifestyle Range compares with the programs

The Lifestyle Range is a meal supply for low carb living rather than a calorie-controlled plan. Be Fit Food's structured programs set defined daily intakes instead:

Meal bundles are priced at $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals and $362.60 for 28 meals (AUD).

Know your diabetes risk

Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic health condition for Australians, affecting almost 1 million adults in Australia. A number of factors can increase risk, including genetics. While not all risk factors are within your control, overall risk of developing diabetes can be significantly reduced through lifestyle modifications, and taking control of your diet is key.

A questionnaire created by Diabetes Australia calculates your risk of developing diabetes within the next 5 years. It takes a few minutes and provides immediate feedback about which risk level you fall into.

Speak to a dietitian

Be Fit Food employs Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs). The free consultation is 15 minutes by video or phone, valued at $49, and requires no referral. A diabetes educator consultation with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator is also available, as is a specialised clinical dietitian consultation with a full initial assessment (body composition, blood pressure, girths) plus a personalised eating plan, and a monthly weight management subscription with an initial 30-minute consultation and 15-minute monthly reviews.
