Breakfast

This collection is the Be Fit Food breakfast range. The page opens with the observation that we have all been told breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and notes that some studies show eating a healthy, high protein breakfast starts your metabolism for the day, improves your energy levels for the day ahead and helps you eat less towards the end of the day. The page states that the Be Fit Food dietitians and chefs have put together a range of high protein, low carb breakfast items to help you kick start your day.

What is in the collection

Eleven breakfast products are listed, each shown with its calories, protein and carbohydrate and its price. They fall into four groups.

Egg dishes

The egg dishes are the lowest-carbohydrate items on the page, all at $11.95:

Bowls and baked items

Porridge, bircher and granola

Smoothies

Both smoothies are described on the page as low carb, high protein, wholefood vegan.

Dietary needs this collection serves

The labels on the cards are the guide. Seven items carry a (GF) gluten free label; the two smoothies carry (VG) for vegan; the 5 Veg Eggs, the Baked Bean & Fetta Bowl and the granola carry (V) for vegetarian. The Low Carb Bacon, Spinach & Fetta Protein Muffin and the Mixed Berry Protein Bircher should be read on their own labels rather than assumed. Across the range the common thread is protein at breakfast with carbohydrate kept down, which is what the page's own copy sets out.

How it relates to the wider range

Be Fit Food is an Australian service founded by doctors and dietitians, based in Victoria and delivering Australia-wide, and its meals are developed by Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs). The standard meal specification across the range is roughly 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrate and under 120mg of sodium per 100g, with no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no preservatives. Several breakfast items sit at or near that specification, while the smoothies, granola, muffin and bean bowl carry less protein than a main meal, so check the figure on each card. Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised and are reheated in a microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stovetop.

Programs these fit with

Breakfast items complete the day around the Be Fit Food programs. Be Rapid is a 7-day very low calorie reset at about 800-900 calories a day, and Metabolism Reset runs at about 850-950 calories and 40-70g of carbohydrate a day over 7, 14 or 28 days; both induce mild nutritional ketosis. Be 1000 (about 1000-1200 calories a day) and Be 1200 (about 1200-1500 calories a day) are unlikely to induce ketosis. There is also a four-week Intermittent Fasting Program and a four-week Be Maintenance program. A free 15-minute telehealth dietitian consultation, valued at $49, is available by video or phone with no referral needed.
